The Clackamas Land and Housing Coalition are voicing support with many of our community partners and our friends at HereTogether to urge the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners to move forward on a unique opportunity and vote yes on Project Turnkey.
Through Project Turnkey, we have funds granted by the state to purchase a hotel in our community for use as a non-congregate shelter. This is a CRITICAL opportunity for our county which has a major deficit of immediate shelter to mitigate the impact of the housing crisis on top of the layers of crisis in recent years that have destabilized so many of our residents. Project Turnkey has been successful in 13 other counties, but it has historically fallen through in Clackamas County.
This is one of those areas we have learned that if we harness our collective power, we can make a difference this time around. Our voice matters to our leaders and it matters to our community.
TONIGHT (Thursday Dec 8) , is a critical moment - OUR COMMISSIONERS WILL VOTE on PROJECT TURNKEY. After that, there will likely be a phase of due diligence where our support will continue to be important to see this project through. Here is a bit more information and talking points.
Thursday, Dec. 8th | 6:00 pm Board of County Commissioners Meeting
Our county is on the precipice of a decision that will impact hundreds of neighbors who are suffering under the weight of a housing crisis stacked against them. TONIGHT you have a chance to bear witness to that decision and show your support for Project Turnkey. We are inviting YOU to show up at: Clackamas Board of County Commissioners (BCC) Meeting
WHERE:Public Services Building | 2051 Kaen Rd Oregon City, 97045
WHEN: TONIGHT (Thursday, December 8)
WHAT TIME: 6:00pm (Pre-meet at 5:30) - Join us in the lobby at 5:30 so we can collect ourselves and you can walk in oriented and confident!)
We want to show our support for Project Turnkey by filling the Board of County Commissioners meeting room with a sea of supportive bodies in green shirts, to signal broad community affirmation of this important project to house our neighbors.
You can show up... WITH YOUR BODY Not big on public speaking? That's okay! Show your support for Project Turnkey by literally just showing up in the room in a green shirt. This will be a clear and easy way to have your voice counted in that room as a part of this collective of supporters. It appears the vote may occur before public testimony, so that visual cue will be so important!
WITH YOUR VOICE You will be given the chance to give public testimony (3 minutes or less) about why you care. This will hopefully be an opportunity to thank Commissioners for their yes vote, and encouragement it to see it through to completion through the due diligence phase to follow! We have lots of powerful guidance below on how to do that!
WITH YOUR WORDS - SEND A LETTER BEFORE 6pm We have words to get you started and make it easy! It would be great for Commissioners to hear as many supportive voices as possible today BEFORE they vote.
Can you show up? Please let us know so we can plan well!
One quick and easy way to let our commissioners know you support this project is to take the survey! If you are a resident OR a person who works or worships in Clackamas County, can you take the survey and let County Commissioners know a Project Turnkey development would be an incredible opportunity for neighbors across the County? We have helpful talking points to make it easy here!
So we can track our engagement, after you fill out the survey, please let us know here (this will only take a moment!)
Do you know anyone else who you think would care about this too? Take a pause and think about whether there is one person you might invite to join you right now, and you've just doubled the impact of your voice. Shoot them at text and bring them along!
