Magnificat: the Gospel of Mary
Advent 2023
In this Advent season, we will be telling stories of a God who moves closer, a God who sees, acts, and expands toward us. Jesus is not only the bridge that allows us to move closer to God but allows God to move closer to us. God calls us again and again to trust God, but Advent tells us a beautiful truth…that God trusts us too.
God trusted the body of woman to hold Godself, to nurture Godself, and to feed Godself. Through the lens of Mary’s beautiful, rebellious, and radical Magnificat, we will be looking at stories of God moving closer across time. And we find, as we look through the song of Mary, the people we are called to move closer toward, even if that’s all we can do…and when we move closer to those people who are elevated in the song of Mary, the people who God has chosen the side of, we find that we are moving closer to God.

Advent Devotional
This season, we are inviting our community to turn --- to turn toward justice, compassion, and love, to turn in the way the world is turning in Mary's song. But we know that takes practice, it takes paying attention, it takes intention, which is hard to come by during this season.
So our Advent devotional this year is something that we hope helps you make room --- it invites you into darkness and waiting and listening, which is a thing so many of us don't have, especially in this season. This practice of quiet, we hope, helps you make some room to turn toward.
