Wednesday nights from 6pm-7:30pm
JULY 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th
@ Oak Grove UMC,
14700 SE Rupert Dr, Oak Grove, OR 97267
Hosted by Storyline Community

We believe it takes a village, not just to raise a child, but to hold us through all the ups and downs of our lives. We will gather to talk and play around the life stages we all find ourselves in, supported by leaders and friends in our community — our village. (This is event is not faith-based! - it is designed for people of all walks of life to connect with their village.)

The evening will include:
Smaller group time
A time with age-based peers to dig deeper into developmental milestones, shared experiences, and what it looks like to hold and support each other through all of those moments. These groups are led by community leaders who specialize in education, child development, and mental health!
Picture
Pre-k (ages 3-5)- 2nd Grade: This group will gather around age-appropriate practices of embodied play, storytelling, breathing, and peer-to-peer interaction based on an understanding of this unique developmental stage.
Picture
3-5th Grade: This group will connect with each other around shared pressures associated with social groups, dealing with feelings of being different, tensions that can come with our friend groups, and experiences of isolation and connection and how we handle all of this in a healthy way. This discussion will be guided by the graphic novel Snapdragon.

Middle School: is arguably one of the hardest stages of life so these students will gather around the milestones that make this stage of life awkward, funny, and beautiful and explore what it means to grow up in a healthy and connected way.

  • High school students will be given the space to develop their leadership as they come alongside their younger peers and learn what it looks like to both receive and give to the village around them, accompanied by adults who believe in the sacred wisdom of youth. (+ high school hang afterward from 7:30-8pm!)

  • Adults: As it turns out, grown ups need a village too! - This group is for ALL adults, older, younger, parents, guardians, family members, with or without children... we want to expand our vision of community beyond the nuclear family to something that holds and honors the needs, experiences, and development of EVERYONE in our village.
Big Group Time
At the end of each day we will all gather into our camp "house" where we will team up with a mix of ages young and old to work together to figure out very important things like how to explode a watermelon the fastest, and wonder what it was like to be a third grader way back when. :)

Our Leadership

"It Takes a Village" is led by leaders with backgrounds in in education, child development, and mental health. Storyline follows strict child protection policy for the safety of our village! That means all leaders are background checked, and vetted, and we train our community in child protection practices that makes sure all kiddos are held in the safety of multiple leaders in each space, presence of staff to float and make sure all needs are being met, and clear safe practices in each grouping and transitions. Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions!
