The Blessing of the Animals
September 7th, 2025
“When wonder becomes a habit, you become less alone.”
- Aimee Nezhukumatathi
The lie of Empire is that we are alone; that we are all we need, that we should rely on ourselves for the answers, for the resources, for what we need. Empire tells us not to trust each other or anyone who is different…and that’s the most unnatural way to exist in the world.
During our Secret Life of Beasts season, we move close with wonder to the stories of our not-so-human kin, to listen to their wisdom and what they might have to tell us about the way we move, interact, and exist in the world. So what better way to cap off this season than by moving closer through the act of blessing --- the naming of the sacredness, the Divine, that exists in all creation. We invite you to practice that in our wonderful BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS!
You can come and participate on your own but also are invited to bring your pets (cats, dogs, snakes, lizards, birds) that can be trusted with other animals and people to receive a blessing. If you have reactive pets or pets that don't like to be around other creatures and/or have a pet that has passed on, you are invited to bring a totem that reprsents your pet (a picture, collar, favorite toy, or a favorite treat!) that can also be blessed!
